Class action

Option consommateurs instituted a class action against Leon’s Furniture Ltd. (“Leon’s”) for providing false and misleading information in the promotion of its “Buy Now, Pay Later” financing program, as well as for charging an undisclosed annual membership fee of $21.

By a judgment of the Court of Appeals in January 2020 (permission to appeal to the Supreme Court denied), Option consommateurs ultimately obtained for the class members the reimbursement of the annual membership fees (or other equivalent fees) of $21 that were charged to them without their consent in the context of a “Buy now; pay later” financing program.

On June 18, 2021, the Superior Court of Québec approved a protocol for the distribution to class members. As a result, class members received a cheque for the amount of compensation owed to them.

This case is now closed.
