Class action

Option consommateurs filed a class action against Google LLC alleging that Google LLC is collecting and using the personal information of web users for commercial purposes without their prior and sufficient consent.

The class action seeks a judgment ordering Google LLC to pay members of the proposed class an amount equal to the value of the personal information collected without their consent. The action further seeks payment by Google LLC of $50 million in punitive damages.

Who is a member of this class action? 

You are a member of the Class if you have used since June 22, 2017 any service offered by Google LLC that does not require a Google Account, such as Google Search or Google Maps, or if you have browsed since June 22, 2017 a website using any of the tools offered by Google LLC, such as Google Analytics, Google Ad Manager or the “Sign in with Google” button.

What is the status of this class action?

On June 22, 2020, Option consommateurs filed an Application for Authorization to Institute a Class Action.

On June 28, 2022, the institution of the class action was authorized by the Superior Court.

The case is currently at the merits stage.
